Long vacant and underused, the Inn at the Motor Mill Historic site near Elkader had seen intense flood damage. The rehabilitation project created space to welcome visitors with meeting rooms, a retail space, and overnight accommodations on the 2nd floor. The project received and was funded by a Paul Bruhn Historic Revitalization Grant by NPS through the Iowa State Historic Preservation Office as the Rural Heritage Revitalization Grant. The final project was awarded the Golden Silos Outstanding Preservation in Agriculture Award in 2023 and the Rural Preservation Award from Preservation Iowa in 2024.
